sam & suzy: 25 weeks

I fell behind again on the week post!

sitting!

We are all pretty much over with the cold that's payed a visit to our home. Sam's sleeping was derailed for a few days from being sick. Little be little he slept more, but those were a couple rough nights. I also learned that I need to keep that humidifier going if I want Sam to sleep good. Actually, I sleep better too.

Sam:
He can finally sit up on his own! He's still a bit wobbly, but every day he gets better. When he first sat and stayed there, you could tell he was so proud of himself.

He's also starting to fine tune the use of his hands. Grabbing at things and trying to figure it out. Sometimes he'll just lay there staring up at his hand, turning them back and forth. Sam tries to hold his bottle all by himself too.

Seeing him do all that just makes me realize how much he's growing! It's pretty amazing to watch someone become a little human being.

Suzy:
Despite this cold kicking my butt, I refused to let it get me down! I've been working on staying positive and being happy. Not that I have much to get me down, but sometimes those little things add up. It's the middle of the night when Sam is crying that gets me the most. The Secret is now available on Hulu.com and I've been watching that for a couple weeks now. I love watching this. I am guaranteed to have an awesome day when I watch the Secret.

I should be back to my regular posting now. With the cold and work being busy, I haven't had much time to write.

shaping up: 5 months post baby

Sorry about not doing our weekly post. Sam and I first got sick on Friday and I didn't feel like doing much other than survive work.

But here I am for this month's post baby body report!

walking along the small trail

So this is where I hate the scale and how it's hard to compare by numbers. I lost about one pound and even that one pound comes and goes. Here's the thing though, my clothes tell a different story! I can now fit into more prepregnancy pants. I do need the help with a hair tie in the button hole sometimes, but hey that's fine by me. (Oh, I do have mention that a lot of my clothes do run on the bigger side. Years of losing weight and gaining, I tend to buy clothes that are a little bigger and not so body hugging.) Either way, it feels great wearing normal pants. I'm still pretty squishy in places, but we're working on that.

I've been going to the gym about twice a week. I want to go more, but we've just had so much going on. Zumba is such a great work out. An hour of dancing, can't beat that. We've also been walking a lot more. The weather is just amazing right now! It feels good to be more active.

I'm still loving smoothies for breakfast. Sometimes I see how much spinach I can fit in my cup, heh. I just love getting a good chunk of veggies taken care of first thing in the morning. And when you start the day off healthy, you tend to make better choices. Or if I feel like treating myself, I don't feel so bad about it. (Like that chocolate croissant I had last week.)

So yeah, numbers not good...but clothes are good. It's all about how you feel!

Teething!

Teething.

That's where we are right now. Last Saturday was a hard day filled with tears. We thought we could survive going to a birthday party for a friend, but we ended up ordering our food to go and headed home after about 30 minutes being there. Then came the night. I've been so spoiled with sleep lately, but Saturday...whew. Sam was up every hour just crying. Poor guy. It wasn't until about 1am when I finally fell asleep and Sam slept for a good block of time. When we woke up that morning I saw two little nubs forming.

That's when I almost started crying. One for being sad of how much pain Sam is in. And two, he's just growing so fast! Soon he won't be a baby anymore and while I'm looking forward to it, it's just hard to imagine him being anything else like he is now.

The thing that soothes Sam the most (besides me) is chewing on wash cloths. He doesn't really care for teething rings, wooden rings and of course pacifiers. We got him this teether which he's really liking and he likes it as is, not frozen or wet. He likes the knotted nubbies. (which i know i could've totally made something like that myself) We also got the teething tablets, but have yet to use them since Sam hasn't been crying in pain.

Those suckers have yet to pop out! I see them, it's so close!

sam & suzy: 23 weeks

Now that Sam's a bit older and the weather is a bit cooler, we've been going out as a family more often. I just love it! This is what we've been waiting for. And it's only going to get better!

My favorite thing to do is go up to Davidson, NC (a small college town like 15 minutes away). They have a great farmers market. We got Sam some veggies for him there and some cookies and a whoopie pie for us. They have an awesome coffee shop and a great diner for breakfast. After our activities, we go across the street and walk the college campus. This place so so beautiful with old buildings and trees everywhere. Definitely not like the college campus I'm familiar with from Arizona.

We go grocery shopping. We take lots of walks now. We even went to church last week, which he slept through the entire thing. We are going to the beach soon, Renaissance Festival, hopefully apple picking too.

Sam:
Sam went for his other set of vaccines yesterday, which always includes a check up. I like taking him to the doctors, it's like a confirmation we are doing good. Yay, we still get to keep him! I can't believe Sam gained almost 3 pounds since last month. It's funny because he's still on the smaller size of most of his buddies.

His doctor also told us it was ok that Sam sleeps on his tummy. That's a relief because no matter how often I turn him over, he's back to sleeping on his tummy. But he's a champ at rolling over both ways and lifting his head, so it's ok for him sleep like that. Still doesn't stop us from constantly checking him.

Suzy:
I've been feeling great! It feels so good to have a pretty solid routine around the house now. I've been going zumba about twice a week. I'm also happy that we take evening walks with the dogs. Poor dogs haven't been getting as much attention as they deserve, so it's good that we walk them more now. It was really bothering me. Oh and sweet glorious sleep! I'm so much happier now that we all get more sleep.

5 month stats

The numbers may be a little off since I didn't get a paper with his stats and I couldn't remember what is head was. We spaced out his vaccines to each month, so not every visit we get a full check up on him. But Sam gained almost 3 pounds since last month!

sam & suzy: 22 weeks

my little fox

It's finally Friday! It's been crazy at work this week, summer is over and everyone is back to business and ordering their business stuffs.

Anyways!
So remember when I mentioned Sam slept through the entire night? He did it again the next day! It was amazing! And then...the next two nights weren't so stellar. First night he woke up around 3 and kept waking up once I put him down. I don't even want to know when it was when we finally fell asleep. Needless to say, it was a rough day for me that not even Starbucks could help. Then the next night, we woke up around 2. This time due to a leaky diaper. And again, he had a hard time being put down.

Two things I noticed. One, leaky diapers are usually the culprit of him waking up. So much pee!! I love our Honest diapers, but I don't know if it's me or them at night. Second, Sam hates any pacifiers lately. Heaven forbid if I try to give him puppy! Wednesday night he acted like I was giving him hot coal to suck on. And what does that mean? That means my boob is the only thing he wants and at 3 am, it's so so hard and frustrating. So we went and got overnight diapers and a new paci.

And the result? He slept all night! He only leaked when he woke up at 5:30. How can he pee so much?? But yay! We figured it out!

Other than that! Things are great. Food is becoming a big hit. We've tried avocado, carrots, peas and sweet potato. Next I want to try zucchini. Sam loves to eat too and reaches for the spoon and shoves it in his mouth. And I'd like to mention how much I love the baby magic bullet. Seriously, it's so easy to make good and it does cost less. One sweet potato gave me like 10 jars of food.

Sam:
I think he's going through a growth spurt. Not too long ago we went up to 6oz for his bottles. Daycare calls me at work letting me know that Sam is NOT happy when he finishes his bottle. Next day we made all 7oz bottles and he drank all 4 that we brought, which on most days he'll go through 3 bottles. He'll also finish a container of food too.

He's also learned the "M" sound. Crying: Muh Muh Muh! Happy: Mwa mwa! This is the first time he started making a talking sound when he's upset and crying. It's so neat to see him develop his vocab.

Suzy:
I realized at Zumba the other day, I just don't have the confidence in my body like I used to. I know all moms tell you that you're body's not the same after a baby. It never really struck me until this week. It's one thing to feel all overweight and frumpy, but it's another to just not carry myself with the confidence I once had. Watching myself at Zumba, I was unsure, small movements and just stumbling through sometimes. This is the same girl who lost 90 lbs, was a yoga champ and ran a few 5ks. Oh totally carried a baby and gave birth all natural!

It's all mental of course. And I need to work on it. Remind myself! I'm glad I made this realization though! It's something that my take time to work on, but I know I can do it! I refuse to be one of those moms who do let themselves go, wearing them mom jeans, hee hee.

Labor Day Weekend

How was everyone's holiday weekend?
Ours was pretty nice! We were going to drive to Charleston, SC and visit the aquarium, but I chickened out and decided that I'd rather stay close to home. I just wasn't sure if the 8 hours total in the car with Sam would be worth it.

walking around Davidson college.

On Sunday, we started the day with awesome breakfast at Toast. We sat outside under the trees, which Sam enjoyed. He was so good! Then we walked across to street to Davidson college and had a nice stroll. I like it when I can use the Ergo carrier, it's very comfortable. I love walking though the college campus, it's just so pretty with all its old buildings and trees.

We went home for a nap and bottle and relax time for me and Rob. We went back out and had lunch by the business park pond. Sam just loves to be outside, which makes me happy. Then we headed down the street to Discovery Place Kids, an amazing kids museum where they can play, learn and do all sorts of activities. I saw they had a baby area, so I thought it'd be fun to take Sam. Ok, so this place is awesome, but I think Sam was a bit overwhelmed to really enjoy himself and he was just a bit too young too. We put him in the water center and he just stared. He liked watching all the kids run around the most. I think we'll wait a few more months to bring him again. He's totally going to love this place when he's older.

We relaxed at home for the rest of the evening. Sam had such a big day that he was falling asleep early. After his bedtime bottle he fell asleep right away and did not wake up until almost 6am! Woah!! He fell asleep again for a bit right after he ate and then took a long nap at around 10. That ended up being his last nap of the day. I guess he felt he got plenty of sleep.

We went shopping on Monday. Old Navy has cute fox clothes for boys. Me and Rob are suckers for foxes. Foxy Rob was my silly nickname for him when we first started dating. (I was Suzy Cat) Anyways! We went to Target and EarthFare as well. Sam did great at the stores. I carried him in the Ergo again.

riding like a big boy
We finished up the day with a walk with the dogs. I realized that Sam is able to sit in the stroller now without being in the infant carseat! After dinner we made him sweet potatoes. He loved them. He now knows that the spoon has food and grabs at the spoon and brings it to his mouth. He even finished all I put in the bowl for him.

sweet potatoes!

Pretty good weekend! I got to relax. We got to take Sam out to a bunch of places.
